Educational Partners

Montana State University houses a Cybersecurity Hub for master’s students under the Gianforte School of Computing.

This degree aligns with the requirements for the National Security Agency (NSA) Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) Cyber Defense Education (CDE).

The Montana CyberRange boots Montana’s defensive posture through practice.

This entity trains educators and students in immersive lab environments to respond to real-world cyber problems in the form of statewide competitions. The ‘Range’ also conducts applied action research in Incident Response Labs that bridges theory and practice.

Lastly, in partnership with the Public Infrastructure Security Cyber Education System (PISCES), the Security Operations Center (SOC) trains future Security Analysts while protecting Montana’s rural communities through real-time network traffic monitoring.

The University of Montana and Missoula College offers hands-on, career-driven programs in IT and cybersecurity that prepares students for entering the workforce.

There are opportunities for students, early career individuals, or career advancement. These programs offer flexible learning formats, experienced faculty, and industry-aligned curriculum.

Government Agencies

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are an U.S. federal agency under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Region 8 staff (MT, ND, SD, WY, UT, and CO) help state partners to build resilience and risk mitigation strategies and provide training and program exercises to support preventative and proactive planning.

The Montana Analysis & Technical Information Center’s (MATIC) mission is to identify, store, and address reported crimes. This multi-agency cooperative contributes to Montana’s safety by providing crucial public safety information to first responders, law enforcement leaders, and government officials.

State-Wide Initiatives

CyberMontana is a statewide Legislative-funded initiative offering cybersecurity education for all residents. They are a proponent of all of Montana’s Nationally Accredited Cybersecurity Institutions.

Handouts and free recorded webinars are available.

Women in Cybersecurity supports women in the field of cybersecurity, offering networking opportunities, job boards, annual conferences, webinars, and financial aid for membership.

CyberMontana offers financial assistance for the cost of the annual membership to the Montana chapter — for a limited time.
